Friends of the Wye volunteers took their display to Wooburn Fete, and met visitors to share information about our important chalk stream.

We had our usual wet display of aquatic wildlife, exhibiting some of the creatures which make their home in our river.

Thanks to volunteers Bill, Colin, Ed, Pete, and James for their help on the day.

Friends of the Wye volunteers took their display to Pann Mill open day and were pleased to let visitors know about our important chalk stream.

The day was cold but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the visitors to our stand.

We were particularly impressed by the interest and enthusiasm of the many children who spent time looking at our ‘wet’ display which showcased some of the wildlife species that make the river their home.

Thanks to our volunteers, Bill, Colin, Ed and Pete for their help on the day.

Sunday 19 October 2025

Nine Friends of the Wye Conservation Volunteers were in action at Desborough Recreation Ground on Sunday morning, just before the weather turned to rain.

The team worked on the southern channel, at the school end of the rec., clearing excess vegetation beside the path between the litter bin and information board. Overhanging branches, and dead trees covered in ivy, were also cut down to allow more light to get to the river.

The area hadn’t been touched for some time and the team worked hard cutting down and raking brambles and nettles that were then built into piles for the Council’s contractors to remove later.

This section of the river is now more visible to visitors to the park, increasing its amenity value, although, sadly, the river is not appreciated by everyone and the team on Sunday had the unpleasant task of removing close on 40 bags of dog faeces as well as other rubbish.

Our thanks go to organisers Judy and Keith, and all the volunteers who took part, making for a most satisfactory morning’s effort.

Friends of the Wye volunteers took their display to Pann Mill open day and were pleased to tell visitors about our important chalk stream.

We had information about the river, and our ‘wet’ display showed some of the wildlife species that make the river their home. Fish were represented by bullhead and three- spined sticklebacks, and there were also a good number of river-fly nymphs including blue-winged olives, and demoiselles.

Thanks to our volunteers, Bill, Ed and Colin for their help on the day.
