Heritage of the Wye’s mills being show to visitors

Friends of the Wye volunteers took their displays to Pann Mill open day and were pleased to meet so many visitors and tell them about our important chalk stream.

We exhibited information about the river’s Mills’ heritage, including a long map showing the location of the Wye’s many erstwhile mills and our ‘wet’ display showing some of the wildlife species that make the river their home.

We were fortunate to be visited by a recently emerged Green Drake mayfly, Ephemera danica, and watched its transformation from sub-imago (immature adult) to imago (fully mature adult), still to fully expand its wings.

Ephemera Danica, the Green Drake mayfly sub-imago (immature adult) on the left and imago (fully mature adult) on the right, still to fully expand its wings.
