A resident, who lives across the river from High Wycombe Lawn Tennis Club contacted us recently, via our website, expressing concern that the overgrown vegetation on the banks of the club was trapping debris in the river and affecting the brown trout spawning areas that she knew were there.
The club groundsman had started cutting down vegetation but needed advice from us, and didn’t have the necessary tools or waders to do the work.
We went out and checked the river bank and access points, and agreed that two of our experienced river work volunteers would do the necessary vegetation clearing from the river wearing waders. They had a session last week and made good progress, which can be seen from the photos.
There will probably be another session, but we have already received the following from the neighbour who was concerned:
‘I am really impressed with the difference. The river is looking so much better – thank you. There was a little egret happily ‘shuffling’ in the newly cleared area shortly after you left. Hopefully the brown trout will return to spawn in November.’
