Revive the Wye

Introduction

This is a temporary website based on the current Revive the Wye website. The original website is now very old in web terms. The purpose of this project is to take the existing content and apply it to a new “responsive” template. This means the current content needs to be taken apart and rebuilt in small building blocks. The template allows the positioning of the revised/ dissected content to appear in predictable positions on the website. For the pages that have been converted, you can also check how it behaves on mobile devices. The former site did not respond well to mobile devices (tablets and smart phones). This new site will adapt the content for different viewing devices.

Editing page added along with instructions and a demonstration of what needs to be done on the first pass through the website.

The following pages have been converted and formatted. These are not “final” just as examples of what is possible.

  • Home Page
  • About Us
  • Our Vision
  • What we do
  • Where we work
  • About the Wye

In all of these cases the content is unchanged (apart from correcting errors), it is just presented differently.

The balance of the site is unmodified and not been applied to the template.

We need you help

The process could be handled in parallel if we had several volunteers to help. No special expertise is needed, you do not need to know how to develop web pages, just follow some instructions:

  1. Open a page
  2. Apply the Divi Template while retaining the current content
  3. Add a header into the page and a footer from the library
  4. Define a new section below the header and populate it with Text blocks
  5. Take apart the old page contents section by section and pasting into the separate text blocks in the new section.
  6. When all of the old content has been copied across, delete the old section.
  7. Review each block, identify if there is an image or images in use. Create image blocks and insert the images into these blocks from the library
  8. Remove the old images from the text.

This is done on a page by page bases, each page will take between 10-30 minutes. This is a first pass to get the old content into the new format. An online video will be available to show you the process and written instructions will also be available.

This needs to be done across the website first.

Second pass

We review page by page and apply some simple formatting rules to make the pages consistent and readable.

Relaunch the website

The site can then replace the old Revive the Wye website.
